Mario Marengo

“ Mario Marengo 是一個極好的人”，跟我介紹 Mario 的人是 Elio Altare (一家非常知名酒莊的老闆)，而且熱切的說 : Mario 的葡萄園，是他所見過最好的。在眼見為憑後，我發現 Elio 講的並不誇張，Mario 擁有非常老的葡萄樹(有些已經75年)，並且是位於 La Morra 產區的向南面的高坡上，名為 Brunate 的 Grand Cru 葡萄園。

Marengo 家族釀酒歷史已超過百年，但直到最近幾年才開創自有品牌，Mario 的兒子 Marco 現在接管了酒莊，因為 Mario 在 2001 年過世了。Marco 如同父親般對釀酒有犧牲奉獻的熱情，Marengo 酒莊是 La Morra 產區里最小的一家酒莊，但 Marco 並不因此而感到自卑或氣餒，因為幸運的是他擁有葡萄園，是位於許多知名酒莊之中的 “ Brunate “ Grand Cru 葡萄園。Marengo 的酒窖位於 La Morra 的主要大街上，生產少量的現代型新派的 Barolo，這些酒特別的均衡、層次豐富、口感強烈、單寧中有菌類的味道，是豐富而完美的 Barolo。

Marco Marengo is one of Piedmont’s emerging superstar producers. Although the Marengo family has made wine here since 1899, it’s as if someone turned on a switch a few years ago, when the wines – the Barolos in particular – went from excellent to outstanding, a level they have maintained ever since. Marengo’s 2007s are every bit as promising as these 2006s, if not a touch deeper.

2006 M. Marengo Barolo Vecchia Vigna delle Brunate

The 2006 Barolo Vecchia Vigna delle Brunate takes things to another level entirely with an intricate fabric of dark fruit, plums, prunes, roasted coffee beans, menthol and minerals that comes to life on a firm, sturdy frame. The wine reveals superb intensity, inner perfume and a long, exceptionally refined finish. The Brunate Vecchia Vigna delle Brunate is Marengo’s most extroverted Barolo and in 2006 it is nothing short of superb. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031. Score 95 – The Wine Advocate.

Stephen Tanzer: Good deep red. Deep, multidimensional nose offers raspberry, flinty minerality, brown spices and dried flowers, plus hints of cedar and underbrush. Dense, sweet and juicy; for all its intensity this conveys an impression of weightlessness, thanks to perfectly integrated acidity. Very long on the aftertaste, with broad, serious tannins calling for patience. Still a baby, and with a great future ahead of it. Score 94+ – International Wine Cellar.

2007 M. Marengo Barolo Brunate

The 2007 Barolo Brunate comes across as somewhat clenched and inexpressive in this vintage, while at the same showing less vineyard character than is typically the case. The 2007 is a reticent Brunate that only reveals its personality over a long period of time. I miss the delineation and nuance that informs the finest vintages yet there is enough perfume and inner sweetness to make me think the wine will find its balance with further bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. Score 92+ – The Wine Advocate.

2007 Barolo Brunate 現在仍然很緊澀封閉，看不出應有的特性，2007年還很沉默，想必要經過長時間的儲藏才能顯現出個性來，雖然如此，但仍能感受到足夠的香氣和蘊含的甜度，給她一些時間，這瓶酒將會均衡好喝。適飲期 : 2015-2027

Marengo’s 2007 Barolo offers up red berries, crushed flowers, licorice and spices in a classic, mid-weight expression of Nebbiolo typical of La Morra that is given just a touch more generosity than normal in this vintage. This soft, inviting Barolo is an ideal choice for drinking over the next few years. Floral notes add lift on the pretty finish. The Barolo is made from vineyards in Fontanazza and Bricco Viole, plus fruit from Elio Altare’s Arborina Marengo obtains in exchange for his Brunate. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017.
